What are the system requirements for CostX Server 2.70?

Resolution:

CostX Server System Requirements

NOTE: CostX client system requirements differ slightly and are covered in the topic CostX System Requirements.
.

CostX Server requires the following minimum system specifications:
.

Supported Operating System

  • Windows 2000 Server or Professional (with Service Pack 4 or above), or
  • Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 1 or above), or
  • Windows Server 2003 (with Service Pack 1 or above)
    .

Recommended Hardware
.

CPU Speed

  • CPU speed the equivalent of Dual Xeon 3.2GHz or faster (or equivalent AMD) is recommended.
  • CPU speed the equivalent of Dual Pentium D 3.0GHz (or equivalent AMD) or faster is required.

The following conditions increase the load on the CPU on the server:

  • Having many concurrent users on CostX Server working on shared projects.
  • Importing dimensions and exported views from Revit.
  • Adding many dimensions/dimension groups to the building within a short time eg. bulk operations.
  • Importing, exporting and merging large amounts of data.
    .

Network and Internet

  • Network bandwidth of 1GB or greater is highly recommended.
  • Network bandwidth of 100MB or greater is required.
  • The network protocol must be TCP/IP.
  • An internet connection is required in order to activate the licenses online.
  • CostX Server is designed only for LAN environments (ie. not WAN environments)

The following conditions increase the bandwidth requirements:

  • Having many concurrent users on CostX Server working on shared projects.
  • Adding very large drawings to the building which are located across the network.
  • Importing and exporting large amounts of data across the network.
    .

NOTE: Ensure all components of the network such as Servers, Routers, Switches, PCs etc meet the same minimum bandwidth. CostX is designed only for LAN environments when used with CostX Server.
.

Hard Disks

  • Available hard disk space of 50 GB or greater is recommended.
  • Available hard disk space of 5 GB or greater is required.
  • CostX Server requires the NTFS file system.

The following conditions increase the disk space requirement on the server:

  • Adding many drawings to the building.
  • Adding many dimension groups to the building.
  • Creating many dimensions.
  • Adding many workbooks to the building.
  • Storing many projects in the database (archiving to EXF is recommended).
    .

NOTE: If the budget allows, it is recommended to use fast hard disks (such as Serial ATA II 7200+ RPM, ULTRA 320 SCSI or better) to facilitate heavy concurrent database usage. Using disk striping (eg. RAID 0 or RAID 5) should also improve performance.

RAM Capacity

  • RAM capacity of 2 GB or greater is recommended.
  • Minimum RAM capacity is 1 GB.

The following conditions increase the memory size requirement on the server:

  • Adding many dimension groups and dimensions to the building.
  • Adding exported Revit views and dimensions to the building.
  • Having many concurrent users connecting to CostX Server.
  • Having many different buildings open at the same time.
    .

UPS (Uninterruptible power supply)
It is highly recommended that the server running CostX Server has a UPS system installed between the computer and the main power source. A good UPS protects the server from power failures, brownouts, power surges and other power disturbances. If any of these power problems occur and there is no UPS, data could be lost or corrupted.

Installation Prerequisites
.

Administrator

The person installing CostX Server must have administrative privileges (be able to log on as an administrator) on the computer to which CostX Server will be installed.
.

Serial Number

You must have one or more valid Serial Numbers in order to successfully activate CostX Server. In the case of upgrades, if licenses are under maintenance, re-activation is not required, however the license should be renewed using CostX Server Admin.
.

Correct Date and Time Settings

Check the date, time and time zone are set correctly on the server to ensure that the software expiry date (if applicable) is set correctly.
